Australia Miyake Kai, now in its 13th year, has performed the traditional Japanese drumming style Miyake Taiko at the St Kilda Festival in 2023 and 2024, receiving great acclaim for its dynamic, audience-engaging performances. The group is part of WALAKADO, a Melbourne-based taiko community established in 2024. Named after the Japanese proverb “Laughter at the gate invites happiness,” WALAKADO shares the art of Japanese taiko drumming through school visits, festivals, regular classes, and mobile workshops.
