Welcome to my country, the land of the great bay of the Boon
wurrung people, our beautiful home. On behalf of the Boon wurrung, a
clan of the greater Kulin nations, I welcome you to our land. Euro
Yuroke - more commonly known as St Kilda - and its surrounds are special
places which continue to carry forward the spirit of our tradition.
This land will always be protected by the creator, Bunjil, who travels
as an eagle, and by Waarn, who protects the waterways and travels as a
crow. As the spirit of my ancestors lives, let the wisdom and the spirit
of generosity which Bunjil taught us influence the opportunities that
may arise at this meeting place.

Welcome!Cr Frank O’Connor
Mayor, City of Port Phillip
Happy Birthday St Kilda Festival! Australia’s largest free community event turns 30 this year and what an excellent reason to celebrate. As always, festival-goers can expect a fantastic showcase of local arts and culture, hosted by the City of Port Phillip. Festival Sunday is the 14th February 2010, Valentine's Day. Live N Local will run from the 7th -13th February and the program is packed full of local venues hosting local talent, with everything from music to comedy, poetry to exhibitions all on show in some of St Kilda’s best venues and businesses. Yalukit Willam Ngargee, our festival celebrating Indigenous culture, is on the 6th February and features a stunning line up including music, dance and performance. The Festival is a family friendly event with plenty for the kids to do at the Kidzone in Catani Gardens, and some extra surprises at Luna Park. The St Kilda Festival precinct is also an alcohol restricted zone on Festival Sunday with alcohol consumption only permitted within designated licensed areasParking is a no-no on Festival Sunday so trams, trains, buses, cycling or walking are the best options, otherwise you might still be looking for a park after the Festival has finished! I would also like to take this opportunity to thank some of our partners who help us make this Festival happen. Firstly FOXTEL, our principal sponsor now in their fourth year. Thanks also to Arts Victoria for their ongoing support. This Festival is partnered by many organisations, too many to list here and we send our wholehearted thanks to all of them. I would also like to make a special mention of the City of Port Phillip community who host this event: please remember this is their home - treat it as you would your own. We welcome you all to the Festival and to this very special birthday celebration.

Executive Director of Television and Marketing, FOXTEL
FOXTEL is delighted to be supporting the 2010 St Kilda Festival, one of Melbourne’s most popular and vibrant outdoor events. FOXTEL has a proud connection to the city of Melbourne with some 1000 employees in our national customer service centre, in Moonee Ponds, and the FOXTEL Studios Melbourne, in Southbank, which houses the headquarters for both THE COMEDY CHANNEL and 111 HITS. Nationally, FOXTEL broadcasts a raft of productions made right here that highlight Melbourne and its huge array of talent. Three series of the critically acclaimed Showcase drama Satisfaction have been shot in and around St Kilda and the channel’s latest hit, Tangle, was also filmed in Melbourne and will go into a second series soon. Two seasons of the hit reality show Project Runway Australia have been shot in Melbourne and the fashion action continues with a third series on Arena in 2010. This summer we are shooting Ultimate School Musical, a series giving one lucky high school the chance to put together a professional standard musical. Congratulations to the students of Essendon Keilor College and watch out for the show on FOX8. At FOXTEL we make it a priority to entertain, inform and stimulate our audience and we are proud to support community events which uphold these same values. We congratulate the organisers on the outstanding program for the 2010 St Kilda Festival.
LYNE KOSKY MP
Minister for the Arts
Congratulations to the St Kilda Festival on 30 fantastic years. The Festival began as
Melbourne’s independent music scene was just beginning to take shape; when artists like Nick Cave, Paul Kelly and Mark Seymour were still finding their voices. Over the decades, these St Kilda musicians have become Australian legends, and the St Kilda Festival has become one of Melbourne’s most iconic cultural events. Today, the Festival is a popular platform for emerging and established musicians, showcasing our phenomenal local talent against the beauty of the St Kilda foreshore. It gives up-and-comers like Deline Briscoe and The Good China the opportunity to share the stage with enduring acts like Archie Roach and You Am I; drawing them into the rich legacy of the Melbourne music scene. The Victorian Government champions our contemporary music sector through the Victoria Rocks program. We understand how important music is to the identity of this city, and we are proud to support the artists that drive our vibrant music culture. We are also very proud to support the St Kilda
Festival, where our wonderful musicians come out to play. This is a truly unique community event and Melbourne and the summer simply wouldn’t be the same without it.
Enjoy!

Festival Producer
Welcome to the 30th St Kilda Festival.
Thirty years is important because this is a festival that represents one of the most diverse communities in Melbourne.
Thirty years is important because this Festival has showcased so many artists in its time and helped to preserve an artistic, creative and live music heritage in a suburb long famous for exactly that.
Thirty years is important because it has been a rite of passage for millions of Melbournians who have whiled away their summer in St Kilda.
And thirty years is important as a testament to all the participants, audiences, partners, staff and councillors who have helped keep the Festival going through the years against many odds.
As for the 2010 Festival, this program says it all. There’s music, comedy, dance, film, visual art, poetry, sport and more, all culminating in a nine day celebration of Australian culture in its many forms.
Thank you to everyone that’s a part of the 2010 St Kilda Festival, there’s an awful lot of you. Thanks especially to the very dedicated and hard working team that has spent a long time putting it all together.
I can’t wait for this program to come alive from the 6th to the 14th February, it’s going to be pretty special. Hope you make yourself a part of it, and I hope you’re there to enjoy it.
Here’s to the 30th St Kilda Festival.
