| St Kilda Festival 2009 Image Design CompetitionDesign Brief:Event SummaryThe St Kilda Festival is Australia’s and the Southern hemisphere’s largest free patronised street festival. A Melbourne tradition, it is a Celebration of Summer showcasing Australian artists and talents set on the amazing backdrop that is St Kilda beach.
Now in it’s 27th year. The St Kilda Festival has evolved to a 9 day event, spanning various venues and locations across the entire St Kilda precinct. The Festival attracts an estimated 380,000 festival goers who enjoy a wide variety of Australian music and interactive activities on festival day alone. A further 20,000 support the 8 day program of Live n Local music, visual arts, street performance, film and comedy.
The Festival kicks off with a showcase of music from Australia’s leading indigenous artists as part of Yalukit Wilam Ngargee: People Place Gathering - a welcoming event by the local clans people.
The St Kilda Live N Local program sees local traders opening their doors to local musicians, comics, poets, art exhibitions and open air cinema. During the week in 2008 there were 35 music acts in over 10 venues, 21 stand up shows in three venues – including a huge Gala show at the iconic Palais theatre and much, much more.
At the core of the St Kilda Festival is Festival Sunday held on the second Sunday in February. St Kilda streets are closed to all traffic and you can find over 5 stages choc full of Australian music as well as Kidzones, extreme sports, dance, street performers and a whole lot more.
Design Brief§ Design must be a simple strong image that reflects, promotes and celebrates St Kilda or the St Kilda Festival – see event summary above
§ The chosen image will be suitable and adaptable to a variety of applications including: website, poster and program, as well as black & white print media
§ Range of appeal and capacity to reach our wide audience is important
§ Use as many colours as you like
§ Images that represent or incorporate violence, pornography, alcohol consumption or gambling will not be considered
§ No corporate logos or anything identifiable as corporate logo
The St Kilda Festival logo (as above), sponsor’s logo strip and additional text will be added to the image by the Festival. The image will also be modified or cropped to suit various usages as required.
Judging Criteria§ An image that represents, reflects or celebrates St Kilda or the St Kilda Festival
§ An image that appeals to a wide variety of people
§ An image that will adapt well across a variety of uses, including print and posters, online usage, signage, clothing, invitations and advertising
Judging / Prize§ Prize to be $2,500
§ The winner will be acknowledged on the website/ posters etc as ‘designed by’
§ Submissions will be judged by a panel of CoPP staff, graphic designers
§ The winner will be notified by Friday 12th September 2008
§ Judges decisions are final
§ No correspondence will be entered into between judges and entrants
