ST KILDA'S MUSICAL HISTORY

In the 1970s and ‘80s, St Kilda was the live music capital of Australia, spawning its own distinct sound. In this insightful panel, St Kilda music identities discuss what today’s promoters and musicians can learn from the heyday. Speakers include Music Victoria’s Patrick Donovan; Delores San Miguel, author of Ballroom: The Melbourne Punk & Post Punk Scene; Paul Stewart, Painters & Dockers singer and music journalist; Bohdan X – St Kilda musician in the ‘70s and ‘80s; and Michelle Harrington, founder of the St Kilda Live Music Community and editor of St Kilda Rock Chronicles.

In an ever changing music business landscape, funding your music project can be a complex and daunting proposition. Presented by Arts Victoria’s Contemporary and Live Music Development program, this interactive information session explores a range of funding options, offering advice and insight from representatives of prominent funding bodies including Arts Victoria, the Australia Council for the Arts, APRA and The Seed.
Learn which funding options and opportunities could be right for your project, discover the best approaches to grant writing, and how to avoid common mistakes. Come prepared with plenty of questions to make the most of this valuable session.

Designed to give a positive, nurturing, educational assessment to assist in developing the commercial aspects of both the artist’s abilities and the songs themselves. Submission guidelines
• Post CD or email your one most commercial track for critique by the panel (no artwork necessary)
• Please prepare to speak briefly about your act on the night (approximately 30 seconds)
• Demos will be critiqued publicly with an opportunity to speak with individual panel members afterwards
• If making a submission you must obtain a free ticket for yourself/band and be there on the night
